_“But I’m not a dancer.” “But I’m not flexible.” “But I’m not coordinated.”

So what?! No one comes into the studio with the “ideal” body. Folks that are very flexible often times may not have the strength to control their flexibility. Dancers (and skilled athletes) can benefit by making sure they are engaging the correct muscles to ensure efficient movement. And don’t we all deserve some time in the day to focus on just your body? It’s amazing how many times we have to remind (and be reminded) to BREATHE! Everyone has something we can work on to improve how our body moves. Whether it’s strength, stretch, control, or a muscular imbalance- No body is perfect.

_As the temps rise, folks are looking for cool, indoor options to stay fit and healthy. Although some of our Fundamentals Mat classes are filling up, summer vacations are keeping people’s schedules shifting around. If there is a group class that you happen to be waitlisted for- don’t despair! There’s a great chance that something might open up. Also, if 3 or more people have a day and a time that they would like to have a mat class- just ask. We can accommodate most requests as long as there is not already a class scheduled. We’re good like that.  We decided long ago that out students deserve small class sizes on the best equipment as opposed to being lost in a big room of many other folks on a hard floor. But that’s just our opinion….

Summer “school….” It will be a sad day when I feel that I have nothing more to learn in my profession. Those that think they know “it all” will forever remain in their secluded little bubble and long for more fulfillment. Try to keep yourself as open as possible so that even if 1 concept settles in or gets clarified, you continue to grow.

Romana’s Pilates conference in 3 weeks followed by Marjorie Oron’s workshop and lessons in my studio here in NC. Can’t wait to keep learning how much more there is to learn. I always remember Romana’s words. “You have passed your test. Now your learning begins.”
