I am currently facing some physical challenges that will require my full concentration for the upcoming months. I begin chemotherapy in August for a malignant growth in my breast. Following chemo will be further tests and surgical consult. I plan to teach as much as possible when my energy allows and I will be pursuing alternative treatments during my free time. With the help of Erin, Tammy, Yvonne, William, Mary Lynn, Shawnna, and Gary I don't expect this to affect a drastic change to the studio schedule. Nevertheless, check the web site and Facebook for updates to the schedule. One immediate change is the cancellation of the Thursday 6:00 class, but this is hopefully mitigated by the addition of the new Level 1-2 class on Wednesdays at 6:30pm.
The teachers who sub classes for me at the studio are wonderful teachers and will give you a great class when my health is not allowing me to teach. I hope you will enjoy the diversity this affords you in your study and practice.
My plan is to arrange my therapy and energy around teaching on Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays so we will see if that plan works. What do you think of my new short hair cut? You have a few weeks to check it out before even that departs. After that, who knows? Hats, wigs, tattoos, scarves, Mexican wrestling masks are all possibilities. What? You thought I'd lose my wit?
I want you all to know that I consider you part of my Yoga family and I will keep everyone updated on my progress. I do expect to move beyond this challenge. I also know that I can count on your support. You can help by coming to class and supporting the studio and our talented and committed teachers, by visualizing me as strong and cancer free in your prayers and meditations, and by laughing often and maintaining a strong practice as a reserve for your own future needs.

Future pains can and should be avoided.
The philosophy and practice of Yoga is such a powerful guide for life when we take it off the mat. Here's to watching what changes, with recognition that all we really seek is that which is changeless.
