Pilates Instructors
Laney Abernethy opened Pilates Body Shaping in Fall 2001 and is the Director for the only Romana's Pilates certifying center in the Carolinas. She has worked with a variety of clients ranging from those suffering from chronic pain to professional athletes, dancers, members of Cirque Du Soleil, and the touring cast of The Lion King. She is a true believer that anyone can do this form of exercise and is honored to have Pilates Body Shaping serve as an official sponsor for SwimMac's Team Elite.

Marci Raible, a Fortune 100 marketing executive and Pilates instructor, understands first-hand the challenges and rewards of finding the time and energy for fitness in a busy professional life. She trained in Pilates for 4 years before deciding to become an instructor, and was certified in 2006. A former gymnast, she finds the studio a natural environment, but continues to balance the corporate world with the physical. This is reflected in her teaching style, which is informed by her business training and her passion for the classical Pilates method. Marci holds a BS in marketing from Penn State University.

_Cat Corchado, Upon retiring from the Air Force in 2000, Cat took her first Pilates
lesson in 2005 in Boston, MA . After entering the apprentice program in
2006, she completed her certification in June 2009. Cat has been in
the fitness industry over 25 years and is looking forward to meeting and
training new and existing clients at the 8th Street Studio.

_Bernadette Donovan-Merkert, who has been studying Pilates at the 8th Street Studio
since 2002, entered the Romana’s Pilates IITP in spring 2009 and was
certified in fall 2010. A professor of chemistry at UNC Charlotte, she
received her B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Duke University and the
University of Vermont, respectively, and subsequently held postdoctoral
research fellowships at Dartmouth College and the University of Texas at
Austin. Bernadette considers Pilates to be a gift as it enables her to
balance the demands of being an academician and administrator while
maintaining her health. Her goal as an instructor is to help to improve
the quality of life for others by sharing the gift of Pilates with
them.
